Guiding Values of Global Ministries
What motivates us to do what we do?
- We are motivated by the all-surpassing glory of God, Christ’s compelling love, and the presence and power of the Holy Spirit.
- We are motivated by those separated from God who may never hear, understand and respond to the good news of salvation in Jesus Christ unless someone goes and tells them.
- Christ’s Great Commission mandates us, as does the Church of the United Brethren in Christ, to be mobilizers and senders of those God has appointed as His ambassadors to the nations.
What outcomes are important to us?
- We make reproducing followers of Christ, who have been taught to obey all Christ’s commands and demonstrate the love of God.
- We reproduce leaders who are trained, empowered and unleashed to call the Church to fulfill its Great Commission mandate.
- We multiply churches that are self-supporting, self-governing, self-propagating, and culturally relevant.
- We demonstrate the compassionate heart of God by ministering to those in need.
- We seek to develop “missional” United Brethren churches focused on fulfilling God’s redemptive purposes at home and abroad.
What methods or practices do we employ?
- We value methods that are sustainable, reproducible, culturally relevant and technologically appropriate within the host culture.
- We serve as a conduit for information, needs, opportunities and resources among United Brethren churches and our worldwide partners.
- We partner with those who share our values and objectives in order to maximize our limited resources wherever possible.
- We honor, and wherever possible, partner with local church bodies within the host culture.
What priorities affect the allocation of funds, distribution of efforts, and deployment of personnel?
- We focus our efforts and resources on lesser-reached people groups.
- We prioritize ministry to people over projects, programs or institutions.
- We pursue opportunities where we already have meaningful regional or relational connections and can expand our efforts.
- We favor social-action that is evangelistically oriented.
- We develop local leadership and discourage staff from assuming lengthy pastorates or administrative roles.
- We seek local ownership and participation in projects so that funding from partner conferences supplements and does not underwrite expenses.
- We maintain emergency and contingency funds for all missionaries.
- We seek to ensure that all volunteers have adequate training, funding and resources.
