STUMP 2004

January 2004

For more than a decade, STUMP (Summer Team United Missions Project) has gathered young people from UB churches across the US to use some of their summer vacation to teach Vacation Bible School in Jamaica. This opportunity provided a great cross-cultural experience for the students, and it blessed Jamaican churches with some additional ministry help.

Steve and Twyla Lee (both professors at Christian colleges) have been the primary leaders of this trip for the last ten years. We greatly appreciate their valuable service to this ministry. We were not able to find an immediate replacement for the Lees.

The Lees committed the summer of 2004 to teaching at Jamaica Bible College. They want to focus on that, and not take on the additional responsibility of a STUMP trip.

Global Ministries isn't scheduling a STUMP trip in 2004, and is considering STUMP's future. STUMP, like everything else, has been affected by our ever-changing culture. With the growing number of summer commitments for families and students, it has been increasingly difficult to recruit students to fill a STUMP team.

Open Bible Fellowship UB, a mission-minded congregation in Safford, Ariz., intends to send a short-term mission team to fill the gap for this summer in Jamaica.
